Cantenac Dagar – Aferie

Cantenac Dagar - AferieThere a satisfying hunger to the blaring mutating repeats on the title track of Aferie. A rawness that eradicates all distraction. The reverbed yelling and harmonica pushing greasily into the fray absorbed by the strutting chop and boxing percussive. A vaguely Islamic-sounding, Sufi-esque flavour vortexing the centrifuge, its trance-inducing qualities gravelled in explosive noise.

No master, no mix, pinned in the breathtaking moment. I’m hoping I get the opportunity to witness this first hand someday, as the LIVE energy this duo are giving off here is insanely satisfying, pushing a mirage of over-driven echoes into the red. A devotional daggered addictive that whirls around shrill and crowing, wounded in the rewind dry whirr of a tape player.

The cicada rub of maracas accenting them strumming lacerations, those stippling bursts of air-raid siren, all abruptly cut off shortly after the nineteen-minute mark.

In contrast “Raque”‘s plumage is more punishing. A solid ball of punky frustration that’s taut and electrocuted, over-roasted in a feedback-swamped urgency that razor wires your head beautifully.

These industrial folk fairies certainly know where its at; two more incredible slices of Cantenac Dagar you definitely need in your life.
