As a fan of Suicide’s tainted pop aesthetic, it’s not surprising that I’m loving the compelling sizzle here. That sleazy love muscle dissonantly dancing in all that analogue compression on Martin Rev's first solo release from the 1980s, now beautifully resurrected by those bastions of contemporary culture, Bureau B.

Although perhaps better known as one half of Suicide, Martin's solo career was sporadic but he was heavily invested in it, the tracks at points ranging from rock'n'roll inflected flurries through drifting desert atmospheres right through to impressionistic industrial workouts. Although often made with the cheapest of instruments, the range of ideas and textures was vast.
Bureau B Martin Rev‘s renown in the history of electronic music from the early ’70s onwards is generally as one half of avant-doo-wop street synth rebels Suicide, but as well as constructing the beats and sounds for the duo, Martin also had a sporadic solo career, the second and third albums of which Bureau B are giving a well-earned re-issue.
