Janek Schaefer – Unfolding Luxury Beyond the City of Dreams / Inner Space Memorial in Wonderland

Dekorder

Janek Schaefer - Unfolding Luxury Beyond the City of DreamsTwo companion LPs from Janek Schaefer find this most mercurial of composers expanding upon some of his more exploratory audio ideas across four sides of vinyl (or nine tracks in digital form).

“White Lights of Divine Darkness” is a suitably spiritual opener to Unfolding Luxury Beyond the City of Dreams, a piece recorded for Sir John Tavener on the day he died, and the mood of reflective recursion continues into “Unfolding Honey”, an hypnotic swirl of shimmering, silky feedback and subtly-shifting crackling echoes recorded to accompany an exhibition of Japanese fashion in London. Janek Schaefer and Charlemagne Palestine – Day Of The Demons

Desire Path

Totally loving the artwork for this one, starring into the complexity, that smokey hair appearing to be shifting with the drone, a mild perfumed aroma slipping your nostrils as the sound cascades like some oriental music box fringed by minimalist chimed sentinels. How weird it seems now to see an artist using a full-sized chunk of kit on stage instead of a laptop, but the effects are the same; buzzing, funny swatches of distended beats and fractured rhythms made into an enjoyably silly-putty blast. Then the main stage area begins to fill up from the bar side when Janek Schaefer starts his drone set, and even if the crowd
